Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to lead the quantity surveying activities for our structural steel and metalwork projects. This critical commercial position involves close collaboration with estimating, project management, operations teams, as well as clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Responsibilities include evaluating tender awards, managing commercial documentation, pricing changes, and monitoring project variations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze awarded tenders to grasp project scope, commercial factors, and allowances.
• Review tender estimates, material take-offs, bills of quantities, and current rates.
• Compare tender documents against drawings, specifications, and change notices.
• Communicate with clients regarding project needs, variations, and related commercial issues.
• Evaluate project risks, opportunities, and tender qualifications.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, commercial records, and agreements.
• Precisely price and track variations from tender to construction and manage claims accordingly.
• Address and justify queries related to variations.
• Examine payment schedules and certification documentation.
• Review subcontractor documentation and final accounts.
• Measure materials accurately and evaluate labour demands pertinent to structural steel and metalwork projects.
• Assist in identifying and reducing commercial and organizational risks.
• Advocate for a safe workplace and reinforce strong health and safety practices.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated Quantity Surveying experience, preferably in the structural steel industry, and a solid understanding of the commercial dynamics involved in construction projects. Requirements include:

• Proven experience in Quantity Surveying within structural steel or a related construction sector.
• Exposure to commercial payment claims, variation management, and final account preparations.
• Competence in reviewing subcontract documentation and commercial agreements.
• Ability to interpret structural and architectural drawings, plans, and specifications accurately.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel materials, labour needs, and project costings.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with strong overall computer proficiency.
• Experience or willingness to learn and confidently use Workbench or equivalent construction/project management software.
