About the Role
Steel & Tube Holdings Ltd, New Zealand's premier supplier of steel products for over 70 years, is looking for a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join its Reinforcing Auckland team. Situated in Auckland and reporting directly to the National Commercial Manager, this position merges full commercial Quantity Surveyor duties with practical estimating responsibilities centered on reinforcing steel projects within construction and infrastructure sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly claims, cost reports, variations, and reconcile payment schedules; settle final accounts accurately.
- Manage variations, final account fluctuations, and cost fluctuation claims to safeguard profit margins and optimize recoveries.
- Oversee contractual commitments, manage retentions and bonds, ensuring all certifications and compliance requirements (including Construction Contracts Act and NZS standards 3910, 3915, 3916, SA-2017/2025) are met promptly.
- Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow assessments; identify risks and opportunities proactively.
- Create detailed estimates and material take-offs for rebar, mesh, and related accessories; draft and submit competitive tenders.
- Assist in subcontractor evaluation, pricing, contracts, and payment management, collaborating closely with project teams.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders through clear communication and business acumen.
- Promote and adhere to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards while supporting the One Company operational framework.
Candidate Profile
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or related disciplines is essential.
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator within construction, whether for main contractors or subcontractors; candidates with intermediate experience or strong academic achievements and eagerness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- Solid knowledge of New Zealand standard contract forms, including SA-2017/2025, and familiarity with the Construction Contracts Act.
- Capability to interpret architectural and structural drawings accurately and generate precise cost estimates.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft 365 applications, notably Excel.
- Must possess a current, clean driver's license.
- Preferred qualifications include professional membership such as MNZIQS or MRICS and experience with software tools like JobPac, Procore, Aconex, PayApps, or estimating and BIM applications.

Bachelor's Degree
