Job description
Role Overview
As a Purchase & Category Manager, you will be responsible for planning and executing purchase strategies grounded on sales patterns. Your role includes generating purchase orders, managing vendor negotiations, and ensuring product availability to avoid stock shortages. You will also work to minimize obsolete stock, boost gross margins, and source new suppliers offering competitive pricing. Continuous monitoring of expiration dates and slow-selling products, as well as coordination with inventory and store teams, will be essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan purchases aligned with sales trends
- Create and issue Purchase Orders (POs)
- Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers
- Maintain optimal product availability to prevent stock-outs
- Reduce obsolete and dead stock levels
- Enhance gross margins through strategic sourcing
- Identify new vendors and secure better pricing deals
- Monitor product expiry dates and slow-moving inventory
- Liaise with inventory control and store operations teams
Required Skills and Proficiencies
- Proficient use of Excel functions including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Inventory management capabilities
- Vendor negotiation expertise
- Ability to analyze profit margins
- Experience assessing fast and slow moving products
- Demand forecasting skills
- Familiarity with ERP or point-of-sale (POS) software
