About Save the Children and Project Overview

Save the Children International is a global non-profit dedicated to improving the survival, protection, development, and participation of children. Since 1983, Save the Children has been active in Zambia supporting areas including child rights governance, health and nutrition, child protection, education, child poverty, and humanitarian efforts.

In collaboration with Vayu Global Health and Zambia's Ministry of Health, and funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Charities, the Better Care for Small and Sick Newborns project aims to lower neonatal mortality by enhancing access to quality respiratory care using bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP). The program focuses on ten district-level public health facilities with maternity and inpatient newborn care units across Lusaka, Central, and Southern Provinces, through clinical best practices, health system strengthening, capacity building, mentorship, and quality improvement.

Role Purpose

The Project Driver for this initiative supports all staff transportation needs and ensures operational upkeep and management of office and field vehicles.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation for office staff and visitors as assigned.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of all office vehicles.
  • Manage fuel usage accounts for vehicles including fuel reconciliation tasks.
  • Compile and submit monthly reports analyzing vehicle usage and performance.
  • Conduct regular routine vehicle inspections for maintenance purposes.
  • Ensure timely payment and compliance of vehicle-related statutory obligations such as road tax, insurance, and fitness certifications.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of vehicle logbooks and input data into the pro fleet datasheet for performance monitoring.
  • Contribute to supply chain initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting child safeguarding.
  • Perform additional duties reasonably related to the position's skills and experience as required.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed Grade 12 certificate.
  • Possession of a valid and clean Class C driver’s license.
  • Certification in auto mechanics or skills pertaining to minor vehicle repairs.
  • Possession of CIPS certification is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in reputable organizations or NGOs.
  • Demonstrated self-drive, honesty, and ability to perform effectively under pressure.
