Role Overview

The Product Developer at Herschel Supply takes charge of the entire product development cycle for assigned lines, handling all aspects from initial design specifications to production readiness. Responsibilities encompass fit and construction refinement, material execution, cost optimization, sample validation, and strict adherence to quality, cost, and delivery standards. The role acts as a category expert and liaises daily with external vendors and internal teams, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills and adaptability to evolving business demands.

Key Duties

• Manage the development process from initial specification through to mass production.
• Compile and update detailed technical specifications and product data accurately.
• Analyze and provide technical feedback on virtual prototypes using CLO 3D within CLO-SET.
• Maintain seasonal product master data for seamless ERP integration.
• Collaborate with designers and merchants to clarify design intent and translate it for overseas manufacturing partners.
• Coordinate raw material development to ensure conformity with design, aesthetics, and budget requirements.
• Oversee physical samples through production phases, proactively resolving scheduling conflicts.
• Inspect prototypes, suggest construction improvements, and offer alternatives balancing quality and cost.
• Provide factories with detailed guidance and visual documentation for required modifications.
• Identify and communicate any discrepancies or quality issues before marketing and sales events.
• Manage wear and wash testing programs to meet rigorous quality standards alongside QA and Compliance teams.
• Maintain strong vendor relationships through consistent communication and technical updates.
• Lead development of product packaging and hangtags.
• Organize and maintain studio sample libraries effectively.
• Drive continuous process improvements within everyday workflows to enhance efficiency.

Success Metrics

• Produce accurate and production-ready specifications and Bills of Materials consistently.
• Ensure timely processing of virtual and physical prototype feedback to meet photoshoot, sales, and go-to-market deadlines.
• Negotiate prototyping costs to meet or exceed targeted seasonal margins.
• Avoid any factory or material compliance failures through diligent quality management.

Candidate Profile

• Prior experience in bag and/or apparel development within lifestyle, retail, or consumer goods sectors is essential.
• Diploma or degree in Fashion Design, Industrial Design, or related disciplines is advantageous.
• Solid expertise in preparing soft goods for production, including construction, pattern-making, and manufacturing knowledge.
• Proficient with Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Excel, and Office suite; familiarity with PLM software is preferred.
• Basic understanding of CLO 3D and CLO-Set digital design platforms.
• Strong grasp of product fit, aesthetics, and the full development lifecycle involving cross-functional teams.
• Excellent organizational abilities to handle multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Team-oriented with effective communication skills interacting professionally with both internal staff and external vendors.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers an annual salary ranging from $65,000 to $78,000, contingent on experience. This hybrid role is primarily based at the Vancouver headquarters four days a week (Monday through Thursday).
