About Voyage
Voyage defines itself as a Maison for Mind Computing, merging advanced technology with artistic craftsmanship to develop non-invasive neural interfaces that are both functional and highly desirable to wear. Our founding team includes experts from prestigious institutions and companies such as Apple, MIT Media Lab, Harvard, and the Royal College of Art. We operate at the intersection of hardware technology, AI/ML, neuroscience, design, and philosophy, fostering a creative and experimental environment focused on advancing human–machine interaction.
Role Overview
The Product Design Engineer acts as the essential bridge between the physical requirements of sensor technology and the wearable product users will accept daily for extended periods. This role prioritizes desire and comfort, ensuring that wearable designs are appealing and ergonomic without compromising engineering feasibility. The successful candidate will focus on transforming raw sensor stacks into aesthetically and functionally mature products, taking ownership of the development process from initial concept through to manufacturable outcome. This position emphasizes hands-on prototype work, material exploration, and wearable fit rather than purely conceptual renderings.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate physical sensor requirements into well-designed wearable products mindful of form, proportion, and user comfort.
- Incorporate human factors and ergonomic principles, accounting for variability in headforms and body dimensions for sustained comfort.
- Apply mechanical engineering expertise and design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) principles to ensure practical production and tolerance management.
- Work extensively with materials suitable for skin-contact wearables, including hydrogels, elastomers, biocompatible polymers, and textiles.
- Utilize CAD software tools like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Rhino alongside rapid prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, CNC machining, and casting.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineering and sensor engineering teams to adapt designs as underlying hardware constraints evolve.
- Embed the brand’s material and aesthetic vocabulary into the product to uphold the company’s unique Maison identity.
Candidate Profile
- Strong background in industrial design focusing on form, proportion, and material selection.
- Thorough understanding of human factors and ergonomic design specific to wearable headgear and body applications.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and assembly methods.
- Experience with materials engineering related to skin-contact devices.
- Proficiency in CAD modeling and hands-on prototyping methods.
- Prior experience in sectors such as wearables, eyewear, jewelry, or medical devices is highly desirable.
- An appreciation for designing objects that evoke intimacy and desire, balancing aesthetic appeal with functional hardware needs.
