About Tripstack
Tripstack was established in Toronto in 2016 and became part of Etraveli Group in 2019. It operates as a B2B Flights as a Service provider and is recognized globally for virtual interlining. With teams in Canada, India, and Poland, Tripstack acts as the entry point to Etraveli Group’s technology platform, giving partners access to global flight inventory, virtual interlining, and services such as payments, fraud controls, pricing, and customer support.
The company’s technology connects airlines that do not already partner with one another, including low-cost and full-service carriers, so that flexible and unique itineraries can be built through a simple API. The platform processes more than 30 billion price points and supports over 240 million searches every day. Through its airline, OTA, and distribution partnerships worldwide, Tripstack helps expand networks, open new revenue opportunities, and improve customer choice at competitive pricing.
Role overview
Tripstack is transitioning its full data stack from bare-metal virtual machines to Kubernetes running on OpenStack in a new data centre. This position is for a senior infrastructure professional who has successfully led stateful migrations before, can plan and implement this move safely, and will then take ownership of the platform’s day-to-day operational reliability. It is a practical platform and SRE role with a defined, time-limited migration objective.
You will work closely with the SRE team on networking, hardware, and Kubernetes fundamentals while owning the data applications end to end, including Druid, Spark, Redpanda, Airflow, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch. This is not an ML-focused position. There is a separate roadmap for the MLFlow platform, and this role may expand into that area later, but the immediate priority is migration delivery and platform stability.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the migration of the data platform by planning and executing the move of Druid, Spark, Redpanda, and the orchestration layer from bare-metal VMs to Kubernetes on OpenStack, with no interruption for stateful services.
- Build safe production patterns for StatefulSets, persistent volume claims, pod disruption budgets, and rolling upgrades for data-intensive workloads.
- Implement the migration using Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform for OpenStack, Helm or Kustomize for Kubernetes, and GitOps practices through ArgoCD or Flux, so the solution can be reproduced and supported by the wider team.
- Take ownership of the live operation of production data systems such as Druid, Spark, Redpanda, Airflow, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
- Manage operational details including segment lifecycle, JVM tuning, ingestion specifications, broker/coordinator/overlord behavior, partition sizing, consumer lag, and replication tuning.
- Develop KPIs, alerts, dashboards, and runbooks that expose capacity risks early and speed up diagnosis when incidents occur.
- Improve query, reporting, segment, and tiering efficiency so analytics remains responsive and cost-effective under load.
- Strengthen observability and reliability through Prometheus, Grafana, and distributed tracing, while treating SLOs, error budgets, and post-incident reviews as standard practice.
- Work with SRE on hardware, networking, and Kubernetes fundamentals while retaining ownership of the data applications themselves.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience with stateful workloads, including StatefulSets, PVCs, pod disruption budgets, and rolling upgrades for data systems.
- Demonstrated experience delivering a real stateful migration and the ability to explain challenges and failures from that work.
- Senior-level Infrastructure as Code capability with Terraform, Helm or Kustomize, and GitOps workflows using ArgoCD or Flux.
- Production-grade observability and RCA habits, with experience using Prometheus, Grafana, tracing, SLOs, error budgets, and effective runbooks.
- Operational depth in at least one of Apache Druid, Apache Kafka or Redpanda, Apache Spark, or Elasticsearch, with enough familiarity to discuss internals credibly and learn the rest quickly.
- At least 7 years of experience building and running production data or platform systems, including a minimum of 2 years on self-hosted or bare-metal infrastructure.
- Experience being on-call for systems you have built and operated.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Comfort working across Krakow, Toronto, Pune, and Stockholm time zones.
Preferred and additional experience
- Security and secrets management in Kubernetes, such as Vault, network policies, and encryption at rest.
- Change Data Capture design, especially PostgreSQL-to-Druid streaming patterns.
- Hands-on exposure to Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg, along with the judgment to know when a table format should be introduced.
- Experience with travel, airline, or large-scale search and caching systems.
- Interest in potentially expanding into ownership of the MLFlow-based ML platform over time.
- OpenStack knowledge, including Neutron networking and Cinder/Ceph storage.
- Experience with experimentation platforms, such as Growthbook or internal A/B testing frameworks.
Working model
- This is a hybrid role with 2 in-office days per week.
- Working hours are Monday to Friday, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM IST, to ensure overlap with global stakeholders.
Interview process
- Future Skill Assessment (Currency Exchange Test - Coding Round) - 60 minutes.
- Techno-managerial round - 60 minutes.
- Techno-managerial round with Architect - 60 minutes.
- Techno-managerial round with CTO - 60 minutes.
