Payroll Officer

Position Summary

McCain Foods is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join their Australia and New Zealand Payroll team, preferably based in Melbourne (also possible Ballarat). This full-time role focuses on managing end-to-end payroll operations for a diverse workforce across both weekly and monthly payroll schedules, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant laws and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage entire payroll processing for ANZ employees, covering approximately 160 weekly-paid New Zealand wage staff and 455 monthly salaried ANZ staff.
• Administer payroll activities including employee hiring, pay changes, leave, and terminations.
• Ensure payroll practice aligns with employment legislation, company policies, and labor agreements.
• Maintain professionalism and promptness in handling payroll-related inquiries from employees and managers across multiple communication channels.
• Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies prior to finalizing payroll runs.
• Operate payroll and attendance management systems, mainly Gensol (with full training provided) and Dimensions (preferred experience).
• Generate payroll reports, support financial audits, and keep detailed payroll documentation.
• Collaborate closely with HR, Finance, and other departments to provide positive employee payroll experiences.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and service quality.

Candidate Requirements

• At least four years’ experience handling end-to-end payroll responsibilities.
• Proven experience with payroll for New Zealand employees is mandatory.
• Understanding of Employment Agreements and Industrial Awards is highly advantageous.
• Experience in manufacturing or FMCG environments is preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong knowledge of payroll compliance standards and best practices.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with capability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills with a customer-oriented approach to service delivery.
• Experience with Dimensions or similar time and attendance systems is a plus.

Team and Work Environment

This role is part of the collaborative ANZ Payroll team within the Finance department and reports directly to the Payroll Manager ANZ. The team emphasizes knowledge sharing, supporting one another during critical periods, and fostering a rewarding and successful workplace.
