About the Position

Midwest Eye Consultants is committed to delivering outstanding eye care by integrating the newest technologies with compassionate patient interactions. The Optometric Scribe is a pivotal member of the clinical team, supporting physicians during patient appointments. Experience is not required as comprehensive training is provided by dedicated trainers. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about patient care who wish to develop their skills and advance professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe clinical information accurately into the electronic health record (EHR) during patient exams as dictated by the physician.
  • Support optometrists and ophthalmologists with patient care activities and procedures.
  • Escort patients to the Optical department and communicate the doctor's recommendations to the optician.
  • Manage patient scheduling and monitor the flow of patients to ensure efficient office operations and communicate any delays.
  • Prepare examination rooms by cleaning instruments and maintaining adequate supplies and medication inventory.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized environment for patients and staff.
  • Undertake additional duties assigned by leadership to support clinic operations.

Additional Duties

  • Assist patients in preparation for eye exams and vision therapy, providing confidential education regarding medications, tests, and procedures.
  • Perform a variety of vision and diagnostic tests as needed.
  • Collect and input patient medical histories into the EHR system.
  • Answer phone calls, coordinate appointment scheduling, and manage doctor's appointment calendars effectively, including patient recalls.
  • Occasional travel may be required to provide support at other clinic locations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Previous experience in optometry is advantageous but not mandatory.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This role involves standing for prolonged periods and performing activities such as stooping, grasping, lifting, talking, and hearing.
  • Light physical work is required, including lifting up to 15 pounds regularly from floor to waist level and smaller weights at shoulder height.
  • Visual acuity is necessary to ensure precision and neatness in job tasks according to ADA guidelines.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting wage is determined based on previous experience.
