Job description
Role Overview
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, diagnosing issues, and repairing key mechanical equipment to maintain safe and efficient operations within a polymer plant. This position demands solid technical knowledge, leadership of contractor teams, and a strong focus on safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to the company’s Operational Excellence (OE) program alongside safety policies and emergency protocols, actively engaging in safety committees and initiatives.
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical contractors during routine preventive maintenance operations.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical components such as pumps, compressors, blowers, piping, and valves as guided by supervisors, providing detailed feedback on maintenance tasks.
- Analyze mechanical failures, record observations, apply corrective solutions, and maintain thorough SAP documentation with "as found" and "as left" details.
- Keep comprehensive records involving maintenance activities, spare parts stocks, and equipment history.
- Guide junior technicians to develop their technical skills and contribute towards building team capabilities.
- Perform additional tasks assigned to contribute to organizational growth and personal development.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess Nitec / Higher Nitec / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus a minimum of 5 years’ relevant mechanical maintenance experience within petrochemical or refinery sectors; alternatively, hold a recognized Trade or vocational certificate with at least 10 years technician experience in the same industries.
- Proven track record in supervising technicians or contractors, troubleshooting mechanical equipment issues, and safely executing maintenance operations independently.
Skills and Competencies
- In-depth understanding of mechanical systems including rotating and fixed equipment maintenance and repair practices.
- Capability to interpret mechanical schematics, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), technical manuals, and proficiency using SAP Plant Maintenance module for managing work orders and notifications.
- Strong troubleshooting aptitude, problem resolution, and detailed documentation skills.
- Dedicated to safety, operational reliability, and ongoing process enhancement.
- Effective team collaboration with strong communication abilities.
