About the Role
As the Materials Planning Lead at Austal Defence Australia (ADA) based in Henderson, Western Australia, you will oversee the transition from MBOM to PBOM, ensuring material accuracy for work and shop orders. Your role includes timely order releases so the Supply Chain can acquire necessary materials aligned with project timelines. You will report directly to the Scheduling & Planning Manager, handling the delivery of precise PBOM data for multiple projects and programs, and leading a team of Material Planning Officers assigned to Project Teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze production schedules, engineering documentation, and project needs to predict material demand and devise material plans.
- Track material availability, inventory status, and logistics to guarantee on-time delivery supporting production deadlines.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, production, logistics, and supply chain departments to synchronize material planning with design revisions, engineering updates, and build schedules.
- Assess material consumption to detect overordering, waste, quality problems, and risks of obsolescence, implementing corrective measures to enhance future projects.
- Ensure materials adhere to marine standards, project specifications, and safety and quality requirements, liaising closely with quality assurance teams.
- Facilitate procurement of custom components by bridging Engineering and Procurement teams when standard parts are insufficient.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight to Material Planning Officers to meet project goals and promote continuous process improvements.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in supply chain management, maritime or naval engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in materials planning or procurement.
- Strong expertise in supply chain operations and material planning principles.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP tools such as IFS and SAP.
- Competent in forecasting and scheduling material needs.
- Ability to interpret Bills of Materials and engineering schematics.
- Familiarity with shipbuilding materials and marine industry standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective communication skills for collaboration across multiple departments.
- Knowledge of international supply chains and understanding of supplier lead times.
- Possession of a valid Police Clearance Certificate.
