Role overview
This opportunity is for a Manufacturing Engineering Technician within the Engineering department, reporting to the Lead Manufacturing Technician – Eng. The role is based at Sanmina’s Fermoy, County Cork facility in Ireland.
About the site
The Fermoy site is FDA registered and holds ISO 13485:2016 certification. It manufactures high-quality PCBAs, subassemblies, and complete devices, including Class III medical devices. The operation specialises in manufacturing automation and supports the full product lifecycle, from new product introduction and prototyping through process validation, large-scale production and testing, shipping, and repair. The facility has built a 30-year reputation for strong operational performance and customer service, supported by an experienced workforce.

Position objective
The main purpose of the role is to keep production equipment running effectively in a high-volume manufacturing setting such as SMT, clean room, or packaging operations.
Key responsibilities
- Keep production equipment performing at a high standard to support quality, output, and yield while following cGMP requirements.
- Use root-cause analysis and practical problem-solving to diagnose line issues and restore equipment quickly.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks as scheduled.
- Work with cross-functional teams to raise, communicate, and resolve operational issues.
- Prepare accurate documentation in line with GDP requirements.
- Take part in continuous improvement work to improve process efficiency and operational excellence.
- Support installation and commissioning of new production equipment.
- Maintain suitable stocks of spare parts.
- Train new Manufacturing Technicians when needed.
- Be willing to travel for equipment assessments, site visits, and training in support of new equipment.
- Help maintain compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
- Follow all health and safety legislation and workplace regulations.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have an NFQ Level 6 qualification in Technology, Mechanical, Automation, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related area. Qualified tradespeople with industrial experience will also be considered.
Relevant experience should include high-volume automation, robotics, and PLCs. A working understanding of process capability, MSA, and GR&R is expected. Experience with FAT, SAT, and IOPQ is also required, along with exposure to regulated manufacturing environments. Additional hands-on experience in pneumatics, electrical systems, hydraulics, vision systems, and workshop machining is important. Prior work in high-volume manufacturing is needed.
Core competencies
The ideal candidate should have a strong mechanical technical background, a compliance-focused approach, and close attention to procedure and documentation. Good communication and influencing skills are important, along with the ability to work independently. Shift-pattern availability is required.

This is an onsite position in Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland. The role is suited to someone comfortable working in a regulated, high-output manufacturing environment and supporting shift-based operations.
