K-3 Core Music Teacher - Various Elementary Schools, Surrey

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated K-3 Core Music Teacher to serve multiple elementary schools within Surrey. This role involves delivering the Ministry Arts Education curriculum through an itinerant teaching approach across designated schools.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop draft schedules for core music programming in assigned schools following consultation with school staff and administrative approval.
• Deliver the core music curriculum in accordance with District and Ministry guidelines.
• Maintain care, manage inventory, and ensure upkeep of all musical equipment at schools.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a valid British Columbia Teacher's Certificate.
• Proven practicum or teaching experience in elementary education, ideally for grades K to 4, or equivalent relevant teaching experience.
• Bachelor's degree specializing in Music or Music Education, or completion of a Graduate Diploma (PB+15) program specializing in Elementary Music Education.

Alternative Qualification Pathways

• Ability to read music proficiently.
• Completion of at least one course with a substantial Music pedagogy component, such as SFU Education 478-4, UVIC Music 237, or a comparable UBC course.
• Completion of three university-level courses or equivalents in areas including choir, strings (guitar/ukulele), ORFF and/or Kodaly methods, recorder, drumming (Djembe, Taiko), or demonstrated expertise in playing and teaching musical instruments.

Preferred Credentials

• Bachelor of Education with a focus on Music Education, Graduate Diploma (PB+15) in Elementary Music Specialization, or a Master’s degree in Music Education.

Compensation and Application Process

The salary range for this position is from 63000 to 116000 CAD per year, with placement depending on years of service, full-time equivalency, and qualifications consistent with the Collective Agreement.
