Role Overview

The Insights Manager will play an instrumental role in defining SuperValu's trajectory through deep understanding of customers, actionable insights, and strategic acumen. This position is responsible for converting customer, shopper, market, and competitive data into clear, actionable recommendations that fuel growth, enhance customer relevance, and inform business decisions. Acting as the voice of the customer, the manager collaborates closely with varied internal teams including marketing, retail, trading, own brand, proposition, retailer, and executive leadership to ensure customer-centric decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to develop an in-depth understanding of SuperValu's customers.
• Detect emerging customer needs, behaviors, attitudes, and occasions to capitalize on growth opportunities.
• Establish actionable mission frameworks and translate insights into business-relevant recommendations.
• Promote customer-focused thinking throughout SuperValu teams.
• Design and oversee both qualitative and quantitative research initiatives.
• Manage relationships with research agencies to ensure delivery of high-caliber insights.
• Drive business action through insightful research outputs beyond mere reporting.
• Create research plans aligned with strategic and commercial objectives.
• Track market trends, category performance, and competitor activities.
• Analyze external data sources like Kantar, NielsenIQ, Bord Bia, and industry reports.
• Spot potential risks and opportunities affecting future growth of SuperValu.
• Provide regular market updates to leadership.
• Transform complex data sets into compelling stories for influencing business decisions.
• Deliver impactful presentations to senior and executive leadership.
• Prepare succinct board-level summaries focusing on risks, opportunities, and priorities.
• Ensure insights are user-friendly, actionable, and commercially pertinent.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships throughout Marketing, Retail, Trading, Own Brand, Loyalty, and Digital functions.
• Persuade senior stakeholders through strong, evidence-backed recommendations.
• Facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions to foster problem solving.
• Serve as a trusted strategic advisor within SuperValu.

Experience and Skills Required

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in insights, consumer research, customer insight, strategy, or related disciplines.
• Proficient in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
• Experienced in managing external research agencies and partners.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
• Highly skilled in storytelling and delivering engaging presentations.
• Proven capabilities in managing stakeholders and influencing decision makers.
• Demonstrated commercial awareness connecting customer insight with business growth outcomes.
