Role Overview
The Human Resources Generalist position, located on-site in St. Clair County, IL, focuses on precise and timely payroll processing alongside comprehensive HR support throughout the employee lifecycle. The role collaborates closely with HR leadership to ensure adherence to employment regulations, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements, servicing both unionized and non-union staff. A meticulous and organized approach, coupled with excellent customer service, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute payroll processing for weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly cycles using ADP Workforce Now or a comparable system.
- Maintain thorough employee payroll data including hires, terminations, salary adjustments, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposit information.
- Conduct audits to ensure payroll accuracy aligned with company guidelines, wage laws, and union contracts.
- Administer payroll modifications such as bonuses, commissions, overtime, and other earnings.
- Manage payroll tax reporting and ensure prompt submission of tax payments.
- Oversee paid time off (PTO), leaves, and attendance details related to payroll.
- Reconcile payroll documentation and support monthly, annual, and W-2 processing periods.
- Address employee payroll questions, rectify discrepancies, and collaborate with Finance on payroll and general ledger reconciliations.
- Assist with onboarding, offboarding, recruitment coordination, and background checks.
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR information system (HRIS) and personnel files.
- Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and facilitate open enrollment processes.
- Support performance management, employee development initiatives, HR reporting, and policy management.
- Assist with collective bargaining agreement administration and payroll-related union matters.
- Collect documentation for grievances and ensure uniform enforcement of company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment, payroll laws, and reporting obligations at federal, state, and local levels.
- Support internal and external audits while maintaining employee information confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Preferably possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline; equivalent experience considered.
- Have between three to five years of experience in Human Resources, including at least three years handling payroll using ADP.
- Experience with supporting both unionized and non-union employees; familiarity with collective bargaining preferred.
- Background in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or industrial sectors is advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll platforms.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, employment laws, and HR best practices.
- Skilled in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Capable of managing several tasks simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and safeguarding confidentiality.
