Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Handyman to perform first-line maintenance duties during planned visits to various branches. The position involves carrying out small-scale repairs and maintenance tasks across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general facilities areas to ensure smooth and safe operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute first-line maintenance activities including fixing minor building faults such as doors, locks, hinges, skirting boards, tiles, ceilings, walls, painting touch-ups and furniture repairs during scheduled site visits.
- Assist technicians with fundamental electrical operations like replacing bulbs, tubes, LED panels, switches, sockets, and resetting circuit breakers.
- Provide support for minor plumbing repairs such as leak fixing, replacing washers, and clearing blockages.
- Carry out inspections of both interior and exterior areas including cashier counters, back offices, kitchens, bathrooms, walls, ceilings, windows, signage, and general branch condition monitoring.
- Assist with HVAC and electrical servicing tasks by prepping work environments, managing ladders and tools, controlling access points, and helping with distribution board checks under guidance.
- Ensure work areas remain safe, clean, and organized while strictly adhering to PPE and health & safety protocols.
- Support fire safety inspections by checking fire equipment brackets, mounting, and visibility compliance.
- Document maintenance activities by capturing photographic evidence and notes, and updating digital systems like SAP Fiori or AFMS with completed tasks and escalated service-level maintenance items.
Skills and Experience
- Foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, tiling, and general repair work.
- Strong teamwork capabilities with good communication and customer service orientation.
- Effective problem-solving skills combined with organizational abilities.
Qualifications and Eligibility
- Minimum education: Grade 12 (Matric).
- Trade-related training is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is preferable.
- At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance or facilities support roles.
- Experience working across multiple sites or in field service environments is a benefit.
- Capable of safely handling ladders and various maintenance tools.
