General Assistant - Forklift Operator

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled forklift operator (5 or 7 tonne license) to join our bustling depot in Mountmellick as a General Assistant. In this position, you'll provide comprehensive support to your line manager by ensuring depot transactions are handled safely, efficiently, accurately, and according to company policies and customer expectations. Additionally, you will inspect, service, and maintain Groundforce equipment and depot assets to meet established quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow instructions from the Depot Foreman or Leadinghand to ensure all equipment is ready for hire.
• Collaborate with your line manager to understand and meet customer requirements, maintaining excellent service quality.
• Operate counterbalance or multidirectional forklifts to load, unload, move, prepare, and store equipment. Full training on forklift operation is provided.
• Accurately pick, return, and scan equipment while identifying any stock discrepancies.
• Load and unload equipment safely and correctly.
• Clean equipment using pressure washers.
• Inspect, service, and repair hired equipment and depot assets as required.
• Employ pneumatic and electrical hand tools with comprehensive in-house training.
• Maintain up-to-date, accurate service and inspection records.
• Identify and document damaged or out-of-service equipment.
• Ensure stock levels are maintained and equipment quality aligns with company standards.
• Adopt a positive approach to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, promptly reporting concerns to supervisors.
• Keep the depot clean, tidy, and well-maintained.
• Occasionally drive the depot van as necessary.
• Perform additional duties within your abilities to facilitate smooth business operations as directed by management.

Qualifications and Skills

• Mandatory possession of a 5 or 7 tonne forklift license.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate completion of records and paperwork.
• Proficiency with scanners, PDAs, tablets, and computers.
• Good physical fitness to meet job demands.
• Reliable, trustworthy, flexible, and punctual.
• Valid full clean driving license and access to personal transportation.
• Customer service experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with shoring commercial operations is advantageous.
• Knowledge of the construction, housing, or civil engineering sectors is preferred.
• Experience or understanding of the hire industry and shoring equipment beneficial.
