Overview

If you have a passion for cheese and want to be part of the vibrant Irish food community, this role offers a dynamic opportunity to engage with customers and share your knowledge of cheese and artisan foods. Sheridans Cheesemongers is inviting both full-time and part-time candidates to join their retail team at the Cornelscourt Dunnes Stores concession.

Role Summary

The Cheesemonger will be responsible for selling cheese and associated products, maintaining their best condition, and providing exceptional customer service by sharing the stories behind the products. This position includes product knowledge development through hands-on experience and in-house training, focusing on Irish and European artisan cheeses and foods.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage sales and customer interactions at the cheese counter and concession walls.
  • Properly store, care for, and maintain cheese and other products to ensure optimal quality.
  • Provide detailed information about product origins, flavours, and pairing suggestions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of counters, storage, tasting areas, and refrigeration units.
  • Engage customers with product stories and promote artisan food culture.
  • Facilitate product delivery reception and organize stock appropriately.
  • Apply food safety standards, maintain HACCP documentation, and manage allergen information.
  • Prepare and display cheese and seasonal hampers attractively.
  • Monitor stock rotation and work to minimize wastage.
  • Operate tactfully in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent customer service standards.
  • Collaborate with team leaders and managers, report any issues promptly, and participate in inventory stocktaking.
  • Carry out miscellaneous duties as assigned to support store operations.

Requirements

  • Preferably one year of experience in a related retail role, although this is not mandatory.
  • A strong appreciation and knowledge of Irish and European farmhouse cheeses.
  • Familiarity or training in HACCP and retail food safety protocols.
  • Passion for artisan cheese and local food products.
  • Self-driven with the capability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills combined with a friendly and outgoing demeanor.
  • Organized, calm under pressure, with a keen focus on delivering outstanding customer service.

Compensation

  • Remuneration is hourly and varies with age:
  • €10.00 per hour for ages 16 and 17.
  • €11.40 per hour for age 18.
  • €12.80 per hour for age 19.
  • €14.25 per hour for age 20 and over.
