Data Scientist - Data & Analytics

About the Role

Join Starbucks as a Data Scientist and play a crucial role in supporting business decisions by collaborating with cross-functional teams to analyze complex data relationships. You will develop core data science models, construct repeatable data pipelines, and deliver actionable insights that integrate directly into operational workflows. This position is based in Seattle, WA and requires onsite presence four days a week.

Key Responsibilities

• Extract, transform, and validate data primarily using SQL and other required tools to produce datasets suitable for in-depth analysis and decision-making support.
• Develop and enhance data science models and pipelines, including creating and maintaining codebases used for model training and generating prediction outputs.
• Effectively communicate analytical findings by explaining methodologies, designing dashboards and visualizations for validation and monitoring, and translating data insights into practical business recommendations.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in data science, applied analytics, or a related field.
• BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python and/or R for data preparation, pipeline development, and modeling.
• Familiarity with common statistical and machine learning methods such as regression, classification, decision trees, clustering, and causal inference.
• Experience using data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools.
• Strong communication skills with great attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• Educational background in quantitative disciplines like Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Psychology, or closely related fields.
• Advanced degrees like MS or PhD are favored.
• Experience working in collaborative analytics/engineering environments involving version control, documentation, and reproducible workflows.
• Expertise in maintaining model performance through dashboards and measurement reporting.
• Proficiency in building Bayesian elasticity models and causal inference frameworks.
• Knowledge of optimization techniques such as linear programming, mixed-integer programming, or heuristic algorithms for supporting decision-making processes.

Salary will be determined based on knowledge, skills, experience, location, and internal equity, with typical hiring not at the top salary range.
