Role overview

This freelance data analyst assignment is with a private equity-backed fashion retail business that needs help turning scattered inventory records into a dependable, easy-to-use baseline. The work is focused on bringing order to data spread across roughly ten spreadsheets and identifying a single trusted view of stock status.

The position is based in London with a hybrid setup that is mostly remote. It is an outside IR35 freelance engagement expected to start as an initial one-month assignment.

What you'll do

• Partner with client stakeholders to determine which spreadsheet or dataset should be treated as the authoritative source.
• Work through inconsistent and incomplete inventory information by asking focused questions and clarifying the data with the client team.
• Use Excel, and where useful AI-supported tools, to consolidate the available information into a clear central inventory view.
• Organize and simplify the data so the client can understand the current inventory position.
• Concentrate on analysis and data cleanup rather than engineering systems or building technical infrastructure.

What the client is looking for

• Advanced Excel ability is essential.
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate data preparation or wrangling is preferred.
• A confident, approachable manner when working with non-technical client contacts is important.
• Patience, humility, and a willingness to dig into messy spreadsheets are key traits for success in this role.
• Background in fashion retail is helpful, but not required.
