About the Role
Mercor specializes in linking top-tier creative and technical professionals with premier AI research organizations. Based in San Francisco, they are backed by prominent investors including Benchmark, General Catalyst, Peter Thiel, Adam D'Angelo, Larry Summers, and Jack Dorsey.
This role is for a Customer Success Engineer based in India, working fully remotely with significant overlap with Pacific Time hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly examine issues reported by talent, reproducing bugs, and diagnosing root causes while distinguishing between user experience challenges, AI model edge cases, and system errors.
- Perform debugging through multiple layers of the AI and SaaS infrastructure using telemetry data, logs, network analysis, and database queries to analyze live system behavior.
- Apply sound judgment in prioritizing and escalating genuine engineering problems while independently resolving other issues via system configurations, prompt adjustments, or user guidance.
- Identify recurring patterns and potential product vulnerabilities to communicate to engineering and product leaders.
- Develop clear documentation and operational guides to minimize recurring problems and enhance responsiveness.
- Maintain precise, professional, and empathetic communication with users and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Technical aptitude for debugging web applications acquired through a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields from reputable institutions, or through experience at fast-paced tech startups.
- Practical familiarity with contemporary web technologies such as React, Node.js, Flask, or Next.js, either through direct development experience or 2 to 5 years supporting users of such applications.
- Comfort and hands-on experience with AI technologies including large language models, autonomous agents, or generative systems.
- Capability to analyze the behavior of AI tools including fine-tuning, prompt chaining, error tracking, and agent construction.
- Understanding of model outputs, common failure patterns, hallucination issues, and feedback mechanisms in AI.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of AI API services like OpenAI or Anthropic, or familiarity with agent frameworks such as LangChain and AutoGPT is advantageous.
