Job Overview
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), specifically within the Oregon State Hospital (OSH) Environmental Services Department, is seeking dedicated Custodians to maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff. This full-time, onsite role offers a monthly salary range from $3,515 to $3,798 with a 10% pay differential above the base rate for custodians at OSH.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and disinfection of spills, substances, and accidents.
- Handle bio-hazard waste and sharps by transporting them to designated secure storage locations.
- Disinfect patient wards during infectious disease outbreaks.
- Sweep, dust, mop, buff hard floor surfaces.
- Vacuum and spot clean carpets, remove trash regularly.
- Scrub, rinse, refinish floors; clean, shampoo, and extract carpets and upholstered furniture.
- Maintain custodial equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Prepare floors and walls for renovation or remodeling projects.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Minimum of 6 months custodial experience involving operation of cleaning equipment.
- Physical capacity to push/pull heavy equipment, and lift up to 50 pounds, including frequent crouching, stooping, bending, standing, or walking during approximately 90% of the work shift.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Proficient custodial organization and time management skills, including prioritizing daily tasks efficiently.
- Effective use of technology and training to improve job performance.
- Appreciation for individual and cultural diversity, ensuring an inclusive work environment.
- Experience operating commercial custodial machinery such as carpet extractors, scrubbers, buffers, no-touch cleaning systems, and a variety of vacuums.
- Knowledge of correct cleaning chemical dilution ratios and usage.
Additional Information
- Applicants must undergo a criminal background check compliant with OHA requirements prior to hire and during employment.
- This role is represented by SEIU and based in Salem, Oregon.
