About the Role

Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Lubbock, TX, as a Custodian II where you'll contribute to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment. This position involves moderate complexity custodial work across facility buildings, including office spaces and residential units, focusing on hygiene and sanitation in a campus-based setting for medically fragile or behavioral care residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, disinfecting, and sanitizing various facility areas.
  • Operate and maintain floor care machines including buffers, strippers, vacuums, and extractors.
  • Restock supplies and assist with maintaining inventory of custodial materials.
  • Conduct routine inspections of cleanliness and report needed repairs or perform minor fixes.
  • Assist in training fellow custodians and document training sessions.
  • Maintain outdoor premises by clearing trash and debris.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and protect confidential information.
  • Participate in disaster response, recovery efforts, or continuity of operations when called upon, which may require flexible shift assignments.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant paid/unpaid custodial experience.
  • Preferred: Six months of custodial or environmental services experience in healthcare or residential settings.
  • Familiarity with cleaning standards, sanitation regulations, and infection control principles.
  • Skillful operation of custodial equipment and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Ability to follow instructions, supervise others, and work extended hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have or obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk on hard floors for long periods.
  • Must pass background, drug screens, and registry checks as per agency policy.

Additional Information

  • Employment is subject to fingerprint criminal background checks, drug testing (random and pre-employment), and other eligibility validations.
  • Males aged 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Position may require overtime, rotating shifts, availability for on-call work, weekends, and holidays.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old for employment at this state-operated facility.

  • The role is non-exempt, full-time, day shift, with up to 5% travel expected.

Compensation and Location

This regular full-time role at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center offers a monthly salary between $2,694.70 and $3,269.08. The physical work location is 3401 N University Ave, Lubbock, Texas. The position is not eligible for telework.
