Custodian

Job Overview

The Custodian is tasked with maintaining the sanitation and cleanliness of designated areas, ensuring all duties are carried out efficiently and safely. This role includes janitorial tasks, operating cleaning machinery, and handling special and hazardous waste.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily janitorial activities adhering to the provided schedule.
• Manage hazardous waste by collecting, sorting, storing, labeling, cleaning, recycling, packaging, shipping, and receiving according to protocols.
• Operate motorized cleaning devices to maintain area hygiene.
• Ensure the assigned work area is consistently clean and orderly.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions or incidents to supervisors.
• Comply strictly with all safety guidelines, company policies, and operational procedures.
• Identify and intervene in risky behaviors for self and others.
• Complete repetitive tasks diligently while maintaining quality.
• Maintain communication professionally with leads, supervisors, colleagues, managers, and customers.
• Support team efforts by filling in during staff shortages and assisting shift leads with task completion.
• Wear and correctly use personal protective equipment at all times.
• Present a professional appearance and uphold customer service standards.
• Understand and use the company’s reporting systems and environmental protocols.

Qualifications and Requirements

• No formal education required; however, 3 to 6 months of relevant training or work experience is preferred or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
• May require a valid driver's license and completion of all safety and task-specific training certifications.
• Forklift certification might be necessary depending on the assignment.
• Bilingualism is an advantage but not mandatory.
• Strong reading, interpretation, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Familiarity with cleaning methods, cleaning equipment maintenance, and safe usage of cleaning chemicals.

Physical and Work Environment

• The role involves frequent sitting, talking, or listening and requires the ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
• The work environment reflects typical cleaning operations and may include exposure to cleaning agents and machinery.

Shift and Compensation Details

• Workdays: Sunday through Wednesday
• Shift Hours: 6:00 PM to 4:30 AM
• Pay Rate: $17 to $18 per hour
