About the Role
As a Court Security Officer stationed at Hutt Valley District Court, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment that allows individuals to access justice without fear of intimidation or violence. This position offers a dynamic work experience involving diverse tasks and interaction with a broad range of people daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain relationships with culturally and socially diverse individuals.
- Conduct security screenings; operate and maintain CCTV and electronic access control systems.
- Collaborate with agencies such as Police, Corrections, lawyers, and judicial officers to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of court proceedings.
- Patrol public spaces, perform building security inspections, respond to duress alarms, and manage security, health, and safety threats or incidents.
Required Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in customer service, security, defence, or government roles is preferred but not mandatory, as full accredited training will be provided.
- Comfortable and confident with using technology.
- Familiarity with de-escalation techniques.
- Physical fitness sufficient to meet the standards of full-contact officer safety training.
- Possession of a clean, full New Zealand driver’s license and a clean criminal record including successful police vetting.
- Understanding and appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Tikanga Māori, and their relevance to the Court Security role within the Ministry of Justice's context.

Salary
The salary range for this role is between 60,729 and 80,794 New Zealand dollars annually, with the final salary determined based on skills and prior experience.
