Role Overview

The BizOps & Finance team at Metabase supports the company's smooth functioning by managing finance, accounting, sales operations, legal, compliance, and accounts through a systems-oriented approach aimed at automation and efficiency. The Controller position leads accounting and financial operations, supervising general ledger processes, audits, tax activities, payments, and expense management. The role currently involves managing external partners with the potential to develop in-house capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end close and general ledger activities, primarily via external accountants, ensuring discrepancies are investigated and resolved.
• Manage relationships with external auditors, coordinate internal requests, and address audit concerns.
• Supervise external tax accountants and directly execute tasks such as state registrations and payment processing.
• Administer accounts payable and corporate expense systems, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Lead future initiatives to implement new financial systems including ERP, revenue recognition, payments, and establish an internal close process.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced accountant holding an active CPA license.
• Proficient in US GAAP, SaaS revenue recognition, stock compensation, and accounting for multi-entity and international contexts.
• Track record of managing complete month-end and quarter-end close cycles as well as full audit processes.
• Previous exposure to startups or Big 4 audit firms valued.
• Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or another quantitative discipline.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to detect inconsistencies and reconstruct financial events.
• Exceptional detail orientation and accuracy with minimal tolerance for errors.
• Excellent organizational skills capable of juggling multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrates humility and willingness to engage hands-on in operational tasks.
• Must be based in the United States.

Compensation and Benefits

The US salary range is $125,000 to $200,000 per year, complemented by equity and benefits. Exact compensation depends on role, location, qualifications, and experience, with adjustments for geographic differences.
