About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant Radiologist to join the team at Gisborne Hospital in New Zealand on a permanent full-time basis. This role offers an opportunity to provide essential radiology services to a diverse community of approximately 47,000 residents. The successful candidate will be part of a supportive department committed to excellent work-life balance and an exceptional coastal lifestyle.
The position involves a blend of clinical (70%) and non-clinical (30%) responsibilities, including interpreting imaging exams such as ultrasound, MRI, and CT scans. Duties include triaging and protocoling imaging requests, consulting with referring clinicians, and supporting radiology technology staff. Optional tasks include light intervention procedures and mammography. Participation in an on-call roster (currently one in four nights, on-call from home) is expected.

The Radiology Department at Te Whatu Ora Tairawhiti operates as a small, dynamic team delivering modern imaging services in a hospital setting. The service encompasses inpatient, emergency, and outpatient imaging. Staff value quality care and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
The appointee will also have the chance to contribute to the development of new imaging services and continuous improvement initiatives within the department. There are opportunities to teach medical and surgical house officers and radiology registrars in the Midlands Region.

The role offers involvement with a new state-of-the-art medical imaging research center at Gisborne Hospital, the Mātai Medical Research Institute, which specializes in mild traumatic brain injury and aspires to become a world-renowned MRI research center.
About You
Candidates must hold Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) Vocational registration in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology scope or be overseas-trained Radiologists eligible for MCNZ registration under the Special Scope of Practice Locum Tenens category.
