Role Overview
The Commercial Strategy Manager will spearhead strategic initiatives in commercial planning, growth forecasting, market research, and pricing optimization, coordinating cross-departmental efforts to boost revenue, profitability, market positioning, and customer value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute commercial strategies, growth frameworks, roadmaps, and transformation initiatives aligned with organizational goals.
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of markets, industries, customers, competitors, and economic trends to identify opportunities, risks, and growth areas.
- Formulate strategies for market entry and expansion, customer acquisition and retention, pricing, channel management, partnerships, and product portfolio optimization.
- Collaborate closely with teams across Sales, Marketing, Product, Finance, Business Development, Operations, Pricing, Data Analytics, Customer Experience, Legal, and Executive Leadership.
- Create commercial financial models, revenue forecasts, profitability analyses, scenario planning, business cases, and investment recommendations.
- Lead initiatives for pricing architecture, revenue enhancement, segmentation, discounting, promotional effectiveness, margin analysis, and overall commercial performance management.
- Assess various customer segments, product lines, geographic areas, channels, and business models for profitable expansion opportunities.
- Establish frameworks and dashboards for commercial performance metrics, KPIs, governance structures, and strategic reviews.
- Track critical KPIs such as revenue growth, gross margin, EBITDA contribution, market share, customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, conversion and retention rates, average revenue per customer, pricing adherence, pipeline status, and ROI.
- Conduct routine commercial and portfolio evaluations, competitor benchmarking, pricing assessments, sales efficiency analyses, customer profitability reviews, and continuous optimization efforts.
- Develop strategic partnerships, alliances, channel and distribution strategies, and ecosystem initiatives to broaden commercial reach.
- Support corporate development activities like mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, market entries, product launches, and restructuring by providing analytical insights.
- Manage relationships with external market research firms, consulting agencies, technology providers, analytics partners, and business collaborators.
- Oversee budgets, analytical resources, external consultants, market intelligence subscriptions, technology platforms, and strategic programs related to commercial strategy.
- Champion digital transformation initiatives leveraging AI-driven market intelligence, predictive analytics, customer behavior modeling, dynamic pricing, demand forecasting, automated sales analysis, and intelligent decision-support tools.
- Utilize platforms and tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SQL, Python, Google Analytics 4, CRM systems, and business intelligence applications.
- Prepare executive-level presentations, strategic plans, market assessments, dashboards, investment proposals, pricing strategies, business cases, performance reports, and recommendations for senior leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop teams including commercial strategy analysts, business analysts, market intelligence professionals, and pricing experts, while promoting a culture of analytical excellence, curiosity, collaboration, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Strategy, Commerce, Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) in Business Administration, Strategy, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Preferred certifications in strategy, financial analysis, business analytics, project management, pricing, or similar areas.
- At least 5 years’ professional experience in commercial strategy, corporate strategy, business development, management consulting, revenue management, pricing, financial analysis, or related functions.
- Minimum 2 years managing commercial strategy programs, strategic initiatives, pricing projects, growth efforts, or leading cross-functional business teams is advantageous.
- Deep understanding of commercial strategy fundamentals including market analysis, segmentation, revenue management, pricing tactics, financial modeling, competitive intelligence, and strategic planning.
- Proficiency with technologies such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SQL, Python, Google Analytics 4, CRM platforms, and business intelligence tools.
- Experience or familiarity with AI-enabled commercial analytics including predictive modeling, dynamic pricing, revenue forecasting, customer intelligence, automated decision support systems, and advanced market research methods is a plus.
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, financial assessment, communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, project management, presentation development, budgeting, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to oversee multiple complex strategic initiatives balancing growth, profitability, customer satisfaction, competition, operational limitations, investment priorities, budgets, and delivery timelines.
- Comfort and efficiency working remotely with dispersed teams across sales, marketing, finance, product, analytics, operations, and leadership, including occasional travel for work-related meetings and events.
