About the Role
Join BetterGov as a Client Engagement Lead – Growth to foster sustainable expansion across current and prospective public-sector clients. This role uniquely blends client relationship management, account development, opportunity cultivation, proposition design, and sales facilitation. Collaborating alongside Directors and delivery teams, you will pinpoint where BetterGov can enhance value, convert successful project delivery into future possibilities, and cultivate a mature, consistent growth framework throughout the company.
Success in this role hinges on building trust, comprehending public-sector priorities, engaging senior stakeholders, shaping credible opportunities, and confidently presenting BetterGov's offerings.
Candidates will carry a revenue target, achieved through a balance of growing existing accounts and acquiring new clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Directors to reinforce and expand relationships with existing public-sector clients.
- Support the development of account strategies, stakeholder mapping, and growth priorities.
- Identify chances for additional assignments, service extensions, cross-selling, and new service introductions.
- Establish and maintain trusted relationships with senior public-sector leaders.
- Ensure regular engagement routines with key accounts.
- Gather client insights to guide future offerings and opportunities.
- Align account interactions with client needs, delivery outcomes, and tangible value.
- Target and cultivate relationships with new public-sector organizations and explore opportunities within focus markets.
- Identify target organizations, priority sectors, and channels to market.
- Facilitate warm introductions to new clients through networks, partners, events, and market knowledge.
- Shape initial discussions around client challenges and BetterGov capabilities.
- Assess opportunities based on BetterGov’s expertise, capacity, and strategic goals.
- Assist in planning pursuits, crafting proposals, and converting opportunities.
- Maintain an updated pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Collaborate with Directors, consultants, and teams to transform BetterGov’s projects into clear, repeatable offerings.
- Recognize recurrent client challenges originating from delivery work.
- Package BetterGov’s skills into compelling propositions supported by capability summaries, case studies, and client materials.
- Work with delivery leaders to ensure propositions are credible, executable, and evidence-based.
- Contribute to shaping offers in digital transformation, data, cloud, service design, systems implementation, programme delivery, Defence, and local government transformation.
- Represent BetterGov externally, enhancing visibility in target markets by engaging in public-sector networks, forums, supplier events, and market briefings.
- Identify and pursue relevant events, partnerships, and thought-leadership chances.
- Build relations with partners, framework providers, and ecosystem entities.
- Share market intelligence with Directors and delivery teams.
- Help establish BetterGov as a trustworthy, pragmatic, delivery-oriented public-sector consultancy.
- Improve the identification, shaping, tracking, and conversion of new opportunities through structured account planning and qualification.
- Enhance pipeline transparency, commercial risk evaluation, and ownership clarity.
- Promote consistent CRM usage and opportunity tracking.
- Coach Directors and consultants in confidently spotting growth opportunities.
- Support bid/no-bid decisions, pursuit planning, and proposition quality control.
- Structure how relationships and delivery successes convert into sustainable growth.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience within UK public-sector consulting, digital transformation, technology or managed services, or related professional services.
- Track record of nurturing client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
- Experience collaborating with senior leaders in central/local government, Defence, health, devolved administrations, ALBs, or other public-sector bodies.
- Strong knowledge of public-sector procurement processes, frameworks, and decision-making protocols.
- Experience contributing to proposals, tenders, client presentations, and opportunity shaping.
- Capacity to translate client challenges into actionable and credible service propositions.
- Ability to confidently work alongside Directors, consultants, and delivery teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Commercial acumen involving pipeline management, revenue forecasting, margin sensitivity, and qualification discipline.
- Capability to operate autonomously within a growing SME environment.
- Beneficial but not essential: experience in digital, data, cloud, service design, system implementation, product delivery, programme transformation, GDS-style delivery, agile frameworks, knowledge of Defence or Scottish/local government sectors, CRM and pipeline reporting proficiency, or involvement with bid, marketing, partnerships, or commercial enablement functions.
