Clerk Deli - Full Time

About the Role and Company

Safeway Canmore, part of Sobeys Inc., is currently seeking dedicated individuals for the full-time position of Deli Clerk. Safeway, operating stores from British Columbia to Ontario, is committed to providing exceptional food shopping experiences. This role involves working in the Deli Hot and Ready Meals (HMR) department, where staff prepare and stock a wide variety of deli products and provide excellent customer service. The position is unionized with associated dues and includes employee benefits such as discounts and potential career advancement. Training will be provided to all hires to ensure success in the role.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare and stock hot and ready-to-serve deli meals, sandwiches, flatbreads, pizzas, deli meats, cheeses, and party platters.
• Maintain product freshness by rotating and culling stock as necessary.
• Provide courteous and effective customer service according to Safeway standards.
• Operate cash register and handle multiple payment methods including cash, cheque, credit and debit cards, and gift cards.
• Offer product samples to customers to enhance sales.
• Use commercial kitchen equipment such as slicers, fryers, and ovens safely and efficiently.
• Write and manage product orders, receive deliveries, and organize product placement.
• Keep product showcases filled and appealing.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

• No prior experience is required; full training is provided.
• Ability to quickly learn new tasks and adapt to a fast-paced retail environment.
• Strong motivation and teamwork skills.
• Effective oral and written communication abilities.
• Excellent customer service orientation.
• Commitment to working safely and responsibly at all times.
• Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and Sundays, especially in Alberta locations.
• Knowledge of different cuts of meat is considered an asset.

Physical Demands

• Must frequently stand, reach, grip, bend, walk, twist, push, and pull.
• Constantly lift items up to 10 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds at various heights.
• Regular use of computers and point-of-sale systems.
• Occasional exposure to heat and cooking exhausts.
