Role Overview

The Cinematographer will serve in a full-time capacity physically located in Harare, Zimbabwe. This role entails designing and implementing the visual approach for various productions by partnering closely with directors and producers to convert ideas into striking imagery. Typical duties include camera operation, lighting setup and adjustments, selecting appropriate lenses and gear, and ensuring ideal framing, exposure, and composition in each scene. The Cinematographer will also collaborate on shot planning, oversee technical video production elements, and maintain equipment for optimal performance. Active involvement in pre-production, production, and post-production phases is expected to uphold consistent visual storytelling that aligns with project goals.

Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in cinematography and film production, with experience shaping visual narratives for both short and long format projects.
  • Competence in operating professional camera equipment and understanding associated video production workflows.
  • Practical skills in film lighting, adept at designing and modifying lighting setups tailored to various locations and atmospheres.
  • Basic knowledge of post-production processes, including how footage will be edited and color corrected.
  • Effective collaboration and communication abilities with directors, producers, and crew members to articulate visual concepts.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to perform efficiently in fast-paced shooting environments.
  • Experience contributing to socially-driven or NGO-affiliated film projects is advantageous.
  • Relevant formal education or training in film, media, or a related discipline preferred, complemented by a portfolio or showreel showcasing prior work.
