About Westfield Arts College

Westfield Arts College is a well-respected special school in Dorset catering to 230 pupils aged 4-19 with significant learning difficulties and some complex additional needs. The school boasts a dedicated and skilled staff team and received an outstanding Ofsted rating in February 2023.

Role Overview

We are looking for a dependable and motivated Caretaker to join our busy and friendly team. This position involves maintaining the school buildings, grounds, and facilities to ensure they are safe, secure, and well-presented for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Working Hours

The role is full-time at 37 hours per week with split shifts: Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and Friday from 7:00 am to 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

Key Duties

  • Ensure the security and safety of the school premises on a daily basis.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and improvement tasks across the site.
  • Assist the cleaning team to uphold cleanliness and a welcoming environment.
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Coordinate with contractors and external service providers as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong practical maintenance skills coupled with a clear understanding of health and safety standards.
  • Previous experience in a similar caretaker or maintenance role is preferred.
  • Proactive, well-organized, and capable of working independently using own initiative.
  • Committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming school environment.
  • Possession of a full clean driving license is essential.
