Job Overview

The Bakery Utility Clerk role centers on maintaining safe and efficient bakery operations in line with company policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing queries, requests, and concerns with professionalism and courtesy within a diverse team setting.
  • Execute bakery utility duties such as preparing bakery items including panning and operating bake-off ovens, decorating cakes with icing messages or names, organizing displays, and ensuring merchandise presentation and stock levels are consistently maintained.
  • Manage merchandise quality to reduce damage and markdowns, handle product substitutions, and maintain accurate pricing.
  • Perform cleanup activities including cleaning spills, display fixtures, and maintaining organized sales floor and back stock areas free from debris.
  • Adhere strictly to Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental policies to ensure a safe environment for staff and customers.
  • Maintain proper use and upkeep of bakery equipment and tools, reporting maintenance needs to supervisors or managers.
  • Oversee ordering of merchandise and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Take charge of receiving processes by verifying invoices, managing returns, transfers, claims, and properly storing products.
  • Support inventory organization and control activities when required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum education of Grade 9 or equivalent through a combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in bakery retail or a related retail environment is required.
  • Fluency in English is essential for effective communication.
  • Knowledge or experience with bakery products is a strong advantage.
  • Completion and maintenance of Foodwise #14 certification is mandatory.
