Audit Manager

About the Role

Join the Assurance team as an Audit Manager in Malawi, where you will spearhead external audit and assurance services, helping clients fulfill their financial reporting and regulatory duties. You will operate using EY's audit methodology, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Standards on Auditing (ISA), and applicable local laws.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all phases of external audit engagements including planning, execution, and reporting, ensuring adherence to quality standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Oversee audit fieldwork at client locations, coordinating with teams, clients, and other EY service lines for efficient completion.
• Assess audit risks, accounting technicalities, and crucial judgment areas, guiding teams and escalating issues as needed.
• Review audit work of team members to ensure thorough documentation and quality before final approval.
• Approach audit and client service challenges with practical, solution-oriented methods.
• Identify opportunities to enhance clients' business controls, processes, and financial reporting, and formulate insightful management letter recommendations.
• Strengthen client relationships, exploring avenues to connect clients with additional EY services.

Leadership and Team Development

• Effectively organize engagement teams with clear role definitions, responsibilities, and timelines.
• Mentor junior staff by providing feedback and contributing to performance reviews.
• Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a supportive team culture.
• Deliver on-the-job training to enhance audit expertise and professional judgment.
• Foster an inclusive environment that promotes growth and quality work output.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong expertise in IFRS, ISA, and audit quality standards.
• Deep understanding of audit risk, compliance, and quality assurance procedures.
• Proven judgment in complex audit areas such as revenue recognition, financial instruments, estimates, and taxation.
• Excellent project management to handle multiple priorities and audit economics.
• Superior communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Experience leading teams and managing audit progress and risks.
• Good commercial insight into clients’ industries and environments.
• Familiarity with audit technology, data analytics, and digital auditing methods.
• Fully qualified accountant with ACCA or an equivalent designation.
• Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ external audit experience, including leadership of audit engagements.
• Experience conforming with IFRS, ISA, and local statutory requirements.
• Advantageous to have knowledge of the Malawi business and regulatory context, international professional services experience, and use of audit tech tools.
