Anthropic is dedicated to creating AI systems that are reliable, interpretable, and steerable to ensure AI is safe and advantageous for both users and society at large. Our rapidly expanding team comprises committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business professionals collaborating to develop beneficial AI technologies.

Role Overview

We are seeking our inaugural international tax expert for the Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore. This pivotal role will have direct responsibility for managing international tax compliance and advisory services across APAC jurisdictions, supporting Anthropic's swift global growth. The APAC Tax Lead reports to the Head of International Tax Operations / Business Advisory and works collaboratively with tax teams located in Dublin and San Francisco.

Key Duties

  • Oversee direct tax compliance for all APAC subsidiaries, coordinating with external advisors such as KPMG, PwC, and Deloitte to ensure accurate and timely filing across multiple countries.
  • Handle transfer pricing documentation and manage intercompany transactions including cost-plus arrangements and service agreements within APAC entities.
  • Administer withholding tax positions and obtain treaty relief for cross-border cash flows involving vendors and customers.
  • Provide advisory support on matters related to permanent establishment risks, corporate structure, and tax implications of operational expansions in APAC.
  • Support regional infrastructure development such as data centers, colocation sites, subsea cables, and new entity formations from a tax perspective.
  • Collaborate with indirect tax specialists on VAT, GST, and consumption tax strategies and compliance.
  • Work alongside Finance, Legal, and People Operations teams on issues relating to payroll taxes, equity compensation, and employee mobility across the region.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local tax authorities, including managing audits and inquiries.
  • Participate in worldwide tax projects including public company readiness, SOX compliance, and tax technology implementations.
  • Assist the indirect tax team with advisory, compliance, and audit-related tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of corporate tax laws across one or more major APAC countries, with expertise in regional cross-border tax challenges.
  • Extensive experience in preparing transfer pricing documentation, drafting intercompany agreements, and analyzing withholding tax and treaties.
  • Possession of a professional tax qualification such as CPA, CA, CTA or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills enabling smooth collaboration across multiple time zones with US and European teams.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach capable of building frameworks from scratch in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Over 12 years of international tax expertise combining roles in Big Four firms, advisory, and in-house positions.
  • Familiarity with taxation in the technology industry or high-growth organizations.
  • Understanding of tax issues related to data center and infrastructure projects.
  • Awareness of global tax initiatives such as Pillar Two minimum tax rules and digital services taxes.
  • Specific experience with Indian direct tax matters including permanent establishment and withholding on payments.
  • Involvement in IPO preparation or compliance for publicly listed companies.
  • Language skills relevant to the APAC region.
  • Experience with tax system development and automation efforts.
