Role Overview

As an AI and Data Scientist at Verily, your role involves enhancing our advanced data and AI capabilities across Verily's range of health-related products. You will innovate data-driven healthcare solutions by creating and deploying complex models, utilizing modern techniques to analyze rich datasets, discover meaningful patterns, and deliver scalable data-driven applications addressing healthcare challenges. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop reusable tools that extract knowledge from both structured and unstructured clinical data is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in complex data science projects to identify opportunities for groundbreaking healthcare applications leveraging data.
• Partner with a diverse team of experts to ideate, design, and apply AI solutions customized for various healthcare use cases.
• Employ advanced machine learning algorithms, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and natural language processing techniques, to derive insights from extensive unstructured medical datasets, guiding strategic decision-making.
• Develop resilient, data-driven solutions that convert detailed analyses into practical healthcare applications.
• Create scalable data pipelines ensuring data quality and access, supporting the foundational data infrastructure at Verily.

Qualifications

Essential

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, biomedical informatics, or biomedical engineering, or similar practical expertise.
• At least two years of experience applying sophisticated machine learning and AI methods—including supervised and unsupervised learning, LLMs, and NLP—to clinical datasets.
• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models and familiarity with prompt optimization.
• Strong programming skills in Python.

Preferred

• Experience with LLM techniques like prompting, fine-tuning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Knowledge of software engineering fundamentals and deploying models into production environments.
• Proficiency in building transformer-based deep learning models using frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Collaborative experience working with clinical experts and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to lead projects across functions and manage uncertainty effectively.

Compensation Details

The salary range for this full-time role in Canada is CAD 139,000 to CAD 156,500 annually, supplemented by bonuses, equity options, and benefits. Salary is determined by factors including location, role specifics, relevant skills, experience, and education.
