About the Role
This role is part of the MacKillop National After-Hours Services Unit, focused on delivering quality residential care that addresses the emotional, social, and behavioural needs of vulnerable young individuals. The After Hours Support Worker will play a key role in fostering a secure and supportive environment, aiding young people in acquiring independent living skills, safeguarding their rights and well-being, and promptly reporting any concerns.
The position includes maintaining connections between young people and important aspects of their lives, facilitating access to identity-building experiences and information, encouraging participation in decision-making, and delivering culturally sensitive care tailored to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and their families. The role requires adherence to organisational values and frameworks, including The Way We Work With Young People.
Collaboration with residential staff, case workers, service providers, and families is essential, alongside fulfilling 'Roving' duties across residential units in designated areas. Documentation responsibilities include case notes, communication logs, incident and hazard reports. Employees are expected to contribute to client feedback systems, ensure confidentiality of sensitive information, and comply with administrative and financial protocols.
Ongoing professional development, supervision sessions, and performance evaluations with the Team Leader/Coordinator and National After Hours Services Unit are integral to the role.
Position Details
This is a permanent full-time position based in Warrnambool, Victoria, reporting to the After-Hours Coordinator.
Key Selection Criteria
- Understanding of Aboriginal culture, values, and awareness of issues affecting Aboriginal children, youth, and families.
- Experience working in youth services or residential care settings.
- Ability to engage and work effectively with young people facing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
- Capability to implement behaviour management strategies for youths exhibiting challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles in workplace settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication proficiency.
Additional Requirements
- Valid current driver's licence.
- Satisfactory criminal history check (provided by MacKillop).
- Current employee Working with Children Check.
- Current NDIS Workers Screening Check (for roles with client contact); assistance available for application.
