Workplace Health and Safety Officer

Role Overview

The Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Officer will collaborate closely with the site operations team at a delivery station to implement company safety policies and ensure adherence to all relevant local and regional regulations. Utilizing lean principles and kaizen methodologies, the officer will spearhead continuous safety improvement projects aimed at minimizing physical and ergonomic risks to maintain a secure and healthy environment for Associates.

Responsibilities

• Work in partnership with Operations to provide clear, consistent safety communication and training on Amazon WHS policies.
• Conduct thorough risk assessments and safety data analyses to identify improvement areas.
• Monitor and enforce compliance with Amazon’s WHS standards and policies across the site.
• Evaluate site safety performance and identify corrective actions for any non-compliance.
• Deliver timely, quality safety projects supporting operations functions.
• Analyze safety metrics and incident trends weekly and monthly to allocate resources efficiently towards high-risk areas.
• Ensure proper investigation of safety incidents and closure of corrective and preventive actions.
• Perform frequent safety audits to detect non-compliant equipment or unsafe processes.
• Implement solutions to eliminate hazards and prevent workplace injuries.
• Audit and ensure accuracy and compliance of safety record-keeping per global WHS standards and local regulations.
• Evaluate workplace organization and employee safety behaviors to ensure consistent training and auditing practices.
• Lead and mentor Safety Associates during peak periods within the facility.
• Engage closely with Safety teams, Associates, and leadership to gather feedback for ongoing safety program enhancements and maintain transparent communication on progress and resolutions.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English, including the ability to read, write, and speak confidently.
• Preferred: NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent safety certification.

Additional Information

The WHS Officer will be a key member of the site's WHS team and report directly to the site WHS manager. Flexibility to work in shifts is required. A comprehensive understanding of applicable local and regional safety regulations and company policies is essential.
