Waterfront Program Specialist: Swimming

About the Role

As a Waterfront Program Specialist focused on swimming at Camp Tall Timbers, you will plan and deliver engaging swimming activities tailored to campers' ages and abilities aligned with the camp’s philosophy. Your role will ensure that campers enjoy themselves while maintaining safety and encouraging individual growth. You will also contribute to the management and upkeep of waterfront facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and lead innovative swimming sessions suited for various age groups and skill levels to achieve camp goals.
• Consistently assess the swimming skills of campers and support staff to enhance their learning experience.
• Participate in organizing waterfront-related events and assist with other camp functions as needed.
• Deliver instruction with enthusiasm, serving as a proactive leader and exemplary role model.
• Adhere to and promote all health and safety protocols, instructing staff about waterfront procedures and ensuring their implementation.
• Supervise assistant staff to guarantee quality and safe programming.
• Maintain and organize all waterfront equipment and ensure the cleanliness and safety of activity areas before and after use.
• Model teamwork, initiative, and high standards of conduct for both staff and campers.
• Support and engage in additional camp activities such as evening programs and special events.

Skill and Qualification Requirements

• Possession of current lifeguarding certification or an equivalent qualification.
• Certification or practical experience in swim instruction.
• Up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification.
• Previous experience working at a waterfront similar to a camp environment.
• Self-driven approach with the ability to inspire assistants and campers through enthusiastic teaching.

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Ability to work collaboratively with campers and staff, providing appropriate guidance.
• Observe and evaluate behaviors, enforce safety and emergency protocols effectively.
• Good visual and auditory acuity to identify hazards and respond to emergencies.
• Physical capability to perform first aid and assist campers during emergencies, requiring strength and stamina for sustained supervision.
• Endurance for extended periods of standing, walking long distances, bending, hiking, and stretching.
• Coordination and manual dexterity for handling outdoor equipment and activities.
• Normal hearing and vision to plan and communicate programs effectively.
• Willingness to reside in a camp setting with irregular hours, limited equipment, and exposure to natural elements including sun, heat, and wildlife such as insects and bats.
