Job Overview
The role involves monitoring VSAT networks, managing events and incidents, coordinating escalations, and ensuring compliance with SLAs within a satellite Network Operations Center (NOC) environment based in Doha, Qatar.
Primary Responsibilities
- Monitor VSAT networks using NMS/EMS tools, including hub systems, VSAT controllers, and monitoring platforms.
- Detect and classify alarms for issues such as terminal outages, link degradation (e.g., low SNR, high BER), connectivity interruptions, and equipment faults.
- Log and manage incidents utilizing tools like ServiceNow or Remedy, capturing site information, service impacts, severity, and affected devices, while ensuring timely acknowledgments and updates.
- Perform initial troubleshooting by assessing VSAT terminal status, signal quality (SNR, BER), modem and antenna unit conditions to determine if issues relate to site factors, network/hub problems, or environmental effects like weather fade.
- Coordinate escalations to Level 2 VSAT teams, field engineers, and network teams following the escalation matrix to resolve priority incidents efficiently.
- Maintain ongoing communication with stakeholders, including regular updates, outage notifications, support for critical incident bridge calls, and effective shift handovers.
- Adhere to SLA and incident management processes, ensuring timely response, accurate documentation, and avoidance of backlog or ticket aging.
- Compile shift-wise reports, incident summaries, and logs highlighting recurring or unstable link issues.
Technical Knowledge Required
- Fundamental understanding of VSAT system architecture, including hubs, remote terminals, indoor units (IDU), and outdoor units (ODU).
- Basic satellite communication principles.
- Radio frequency (RF) concepts such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), bit error rate (BER), and signal attenuation.
- Basic networking knowledge including IP and routing fundamentals.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and ticketing systems for incident tracking.
