Visual Designer

Role overview

This contract role is for a Visual Designer based in Boston, MA, with a hybrid/remote working setup. The assignment runs for 12 months and may be extended. The engagement is available only on W2; C2C and C2H arrangements are not accepted.

The designer will create visual communications and digital interface solutions that support the organization’s mission, vision, public-facing reputation, and identity standards. The work involves partnering with stakeholders and IT teams to deliver modern, effective design outcomes.

A key part of the role is using AI-enhanced design tools to improve creativity, speed, and overall design quality while following brand rules and responsible AI practices.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in graphic design, visual studies, or a related area, along with 3–5 years of relevant experience.

Success in this role requires comfort working across multiple disciplines, strong creative thinking, sound problem-solving, excellent planning and organization, and a high level of precision in design, typography, and production work.

Applicants should be able to explain design decisions clearly, understand user-centered design principles, and work confidently with Adobe Creative Cloud and other modern design tools. Knowledge of HTML and CSS is expected. Experience with digital photo and video production is considered an advantage.

The role also calls for strong interpersonal skills, a service-oriented mindset, and practical experience with AI-assisted design tools such as generative imagery, layout suggestions, and automated pattern libraries. Candidates must be able to judge AI outputs for accuracy, accessibility, ethical use, and brand fit, and should be ready to adopt new AI capabilities into design workflows as they evolve.

Key responsibilities

The Visual Designer will work with project teams to clarify business objectives and design needs, then turn those into thoughtful visual solutions for moderately complex interface and communication challenges.

Responsibilities include guiding the design process from early concepts through production, collaborating closely with UX and design colleagues to deliver final assets, and using AI-enabled tools to support ideation, layout exploration, image generation, and workflow efficiency.

The role also involves analyzing business needs with team support, producing sketches, wireframes, storyboards, charts, graphics, data visualizations, and interactive layouts, and working with UX/Design, Digital Strategy, IT, and Communications teams to identify updates or improvements for digital programs.

The designer will stay informed about design research, industry trends, and advances in AI-supported creative workflows, take part in user research activities, and use AI synthesis tools where appropriate and consistent with organizational standards to surface patterns or insights.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining strong collaboration and customer service, using AI tools for early-stage data visualization and formatting support, sourcing original and stock imagery, and responsibly applying AI image generation when it helps concept development and iteration. The designer must also uphold brand guidelines and encourage ethical, transparent, and responsible AI use in creative work.

This role is offered as a 12-month contract with possible extension. The client requires W2 employment only.
