About the Role
An Cuan is a specialized regional support service dedicated to assisting individuals with intellectual disabilities exhibiting challenging behaviors. Its mission involves working closely with affected individuals, their families, and professional teams across Cork and Kerry to enhance quality of life through personalized person-centered plans, positive behavior support strategies, and coordinated interdisciplinary recommendations. This position requires working across various local community environments.
Position Details
This opening is for one Social Care Worker on a two-year fixed-term contract. Remuneration aligns with the HSE Social Care Worker pay scale effective from June 1, 2026, starting at €41,260 annually progressing through increments up to €57,789 based on experience and recognized service credits. New hires start at the minimum scale point with possible credit for prior relevant government and statutory agency experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver support aligned with person-centered and positive behavior support plans aimed at expanding opportunities for people living with intellectual disabilities and autism with challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and the wider support network.
- Operate flexibly within various community settings to meet client needs.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- At least three years of experience working with individuals who have intellectual disabilities or autism and associated behavioral challenges.
- A relevant third-level qualification in Social Care or an equivalent credential in accordance with CORU standards.
- Current professional registration with the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU or evidence of application for such registration (employment contingent upon registration confirmation).
- Valid working permission and eligibility to live and work in Ireland.
- Proficient knowledge in implementing Person-Centred Planning, Positive Behaviour Support, and managing positive risk.
- Strong interpersonal, planning, organizational, and negotiation skills, able to effectively liaise with families and professional teams.
- Problem-solving capabilities and the ability to facilitate resolution in complex situations.
- A flexible approach to delivering services tailored to client needs.
- Advanced IT skills.
- A full clean driving license is essential due to the nature of the role involving travel between locations.
