Role Overview

The Senior SAP ABAP Consultant plays an essential role involving advanced design, coding, optimization, and maintenance of tailored SAP solutions across phases like implementation, upgrades, migrations, and production support. The role demands 8-10 years of hands-on development expertise, ownership of complex technical tasks, and the ability to convert business needs into efficient, maintainable custom SAP applications. This position reports to senior technical and delivery leaders in a flat matrix structure, collaborates with functional and technical teams, and mentors junior developers in a dynamic AI-driven enterprise software company.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, test, and deploy SAP ABAP components such as reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms as part of comprehensive RICEF deliverables.
• Convert business and functional requirements into precise technical designs, estimates, and actionable development plans.
• Implement custom SAP applications utilizing ABAP Objects, object-oriented programming, ALV reporting, reusable code, interfaces, and structured exception handling.
• Develop enhancements via BAPIs, BADIs, User Exits, Customer Exits, Enhancement Spots, ensuring stability and upgrade-readiness.
• Engineer SAP integrations using IDocs, RFCs, and web services (SOAP/REST/OData), supporting PI/PO landscape connectivity when required.
• Create and maintain SAP Smart Forms, SAPscript, and Adobe Forms ensuring reliable output, layout, and accurate data processing.
• Conduct peer code reviews focusing on correctness, security, readability, reusability, and compliance with ABAP standards.
• Enhance performance of existing and new programs through debugging, SQL and runtime analysis, optimizing internal table processing.
• Support SAP S/4HANA projects including ABAP on HANA development incorporating CDS Views and AMDP when relevant.
• Investigate and resolve production issues with root cause analysis and communicate resolutions effectively to stakeholders.
• Document technical details such as specifications, logic, interface mappings, test plans and results, deployment procedures, and support information.
• Provide mentorship to junior developers via design support, code reviews, debugging assistance, and knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate across functional, technical, business, quality assurance, and client teams to achieve integrated SAP implementation, upgrade, enhancement, and support goals.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related disciplines is mandatory, substantiated by relevant academic credentials.
• SAP certification is optional but considered beneficial.

Experience Requirements

• 8 to 10 years of substantial SAP ABAP development experience with direct responsibilities in development, enhancement, integration, debugging, and support.
• Solid track record delivering RICEF objects and custom SAP solutions in live environments.
• Experience in end-to-end SAP projects including implementation, upgrades, migrations, and support phases.
• Collaboration experience with functional consultants and business stakeholders; prior consulting and technical leadership roles highly valued.

Technical Skills

• Expertise in both procedural ABAP and ABAP Objects with strong OOP foundations.
• Comprehensive RICEF delivery skills including reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, and forms development.
• Hands-on knowledge of ALV reports, integration enhancements (BAPI, BADI, User Exits, Customer Exits, Enhancement Spots), and SAP Enhancement Framework.
• Integration skills with IDocs, RFCs, SOAP, REST, OData, and proxies; familiarity with PI/PO landscape is a plus.
• Experience with Smart Forms, SAPscript, and Adobe Forms production-ready solutions.
• Proficient debugging, code optimization, root cause analysis, and performance tuning abilities.
• Ability to generate thorough technical documentation including specifications, test evidence, and transport requests.
• Familiarity with SAP functional modules such as SD, MM, FICO, PP, or WM.
• Understanding of SAP Transport Management System and disciplined change movement.
• Competence in code review, standard enforcement, pattern reusability, and maintainability improvements.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodology and version control systems like Git for ABAP is advantageous.
