About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Operations Associate to join a mid-sized alternative investment firm located in Midtown New York City. The firm, comprising around 75-100 employees, is focused on opportunistic and special situations investing and plans to double its assets under management in the next three years. This role offers a hybrid work schedule and an excellent cultural environment with promising long-term career prospects.
Responsibilities
- Manage trade booking, settlement, and life cycle activities across various asset classes including private credit, structured finance, specialty lending, fixed income, equities, and derivatives.
- Collaborate closely with portfolio managers, counterparties, administrators, custodians, trustees, and service providers to ensure accurate transaction recording and settlement.
- Support the operational rollout of new investments, financing structures, and asset classes, maintaining accurate data across internal systems and third-party platforms.
- Oversee cash and liquidity monitoring for investment vehicles and operating accounts, coordinating funding needs related to investments, settlements, and financing obligations.
- Work with investment teams and external partners such as administrators, banks, and prime brokers to handle cash movements and forecast capital requirements.
- Assist in monitoring portfolio metrics such as exposures, cash flows, duration, yield, and leverage, particularly in private credit and structured investments.
- Prepare analyses on investment performance, counterparties, portfolio exposures, and key return drivers.
- Track borrowing bases, covenants, servicing data, and reporting needs relevant to specialty finance and lending strategies.
- Work alongside investment professionals and technology teams to refine operational workflows, reporting, and data infrastructure.
- Identify and implement automation initiatives to improve process efficiency, data quality, and scalability of procedures and controls.
- Participate in technology evaluations and implementation of investment systems and third-party vendors supporting platform growth.
- Coordinate onboarding documentation and procedures for new counterparties, brokers, banks, and other external partners, managing KYC, AML, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain onboarding records and track outstanding documentation along with periodic refreshes.
- Review reconciliations of positions, cash balances, transactions, valuations, and portfolio activities across internal and external sources.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to trade activity, security positions, valuations, and cash movements.
- Support accounting close processes and supply accurate operational data for financial and investor reporting.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess 3 to 8 years of operational experience within a fund environment, specifically with exposure to credit products such as lending, bank debt, CLOs, or OTC derivatives. This role suits professionals who thrive on solving complex operational challenges, enhancing processes, and collaborating closely with investment teams.
