Senior Manager, EMEA Payroll

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Manager to lead payroll operations across the EMEA region. This leadership role requires overseeing payroll processing in multiple European countries, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness while managing a regional team and vendor partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee comprehensive payroll operations across EMEA nations such as Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Poland.
• Guarantee punctual and precise monthly payroll activities covering base salary, bonuses, equity awards, benefits, payroll taxes, and other deductions.
• Lead and develop a regional payroll team by managing workloads, mentoring, and setting priorities to meet departmental goals.
• Act as the go-to expert and escalation contact for all payroll matters within the EMEA region.
• Maintain strategic relationships with external payroll vendors, HRIS providers, benefits administrators, stock management teams, finance, accounting, and HR departments.
• Assess vendor performance regularly to ensure service quality, resolve issues timely, and meet all payroll responsibilities.
• Ensure payroll processes adhere to local laws regarding payroll taxes, employment taxes, statutory reporting, withholdings, benefits, and employment regulations.
• Maintain deep knowledge of regional benefits legislation and how these affect payroll operations.
• Implement robust operational procedures, including controls, reconciliations, approvals, and documentation to support compliance and audits.
• Collaborate closely with Finance and Accounting teams on payroll accounting, accruals, journal entries, and reporting issues.
• Lead payroll-related projects such as process standardization, vendor transitions, system upgrades, and control enhancements.
• Track and report key payroll performance indicators, operational risks, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Drive ongoing enhancements focused on accuracy, compliance, scalability, employee satisfaction, and efficiency.
• Support company growth by facilitating payroll expansion into additional countries within EMEA.

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive management experience in payroll operations across multiple EMEA territories.
• In-depth knowledge of international payroll processing, statutory reporting, payroll taxes, benefits administration, accruals, equity compensation, and compliance requirements.
• Proven leadership skills with experience in managing and developing teams.
• Skilled in overseeing external vendors and cross-department collaboration.
• Strong expertise in payroll controls, audits, reconciliations, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Ability to identify compliance gaps and implement scalable, effective solutions.
• Solid understanding of payroll accounting and its impact on financial statements.
• Experience utilizing payroll performance metrics and reporting tools to enhance operations.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of working with multiple stakeholders at various levels.
• Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and adept at balancing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Comfortable managing ambiguity, addressing complex regional payroll issues, and adapting to shifting priorities.
