Role Summary
The Senior Fiber Optic Technician based in Dubai will be responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cabling within telecom exchanges and data centers to enable reliable, high-performance connections supporting GPU hosting infrastructures. This full-time, on-site role involves troubleshooting fiber links, diagnosing optical components, maintaining detailed documentation, and working collaboratively with network and facility teams to ensure seamless upgrades and maintenance without disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and route fiber optic cables adhering to structured cabling standards.
- Perform fusion and mechanical splicing along with connector termination.
- Ensure professional cable dressing and labeling following BICSI/TIA standards to optimize airflow and traceability.
- Use advanced diagnostic equipment such as OTDR, power meters, VFL, and OLTS to certify installations and resolve network issues.
- Monitor and test live network operations proactively to avoid downtime.
- Support moves, adds, and changes (MACs) on Data Center and Telecom Exchange floors, collaborating with engineers.
- Document test outcomes, splice records, and physical cable layouts comprehensively.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least 2 to 5 years of practical experience with fiber optic structured cabling.
- Demonstrated experience in Telecom Exchange and/or Data Center environments.
- Expert familiarity with standards such as TIA/EIA and BICSI relating to cable routing, bend radius, tension, and grounding.
- Advanced operation of optical testing devices including OTDR, light sources, power meters, VFLs, and inspection scopes.
- Knowledge of fiber types (OS1, OS2, OM3, OM4, OM5) and transceiver modules.
- Ability to accurately interpret technical blueprints, floor plans, and cable path diagrams.
- Strong analytical skills for resolving issues under pressure in high-stakes environments.
- Hands-on skills in cable installation, termination, and management.
- Proficiency troubleshooting fiber connectivity issues effectively.
- Relevant diploma or certification in telecommunications, networking, or a related discipline; certifications from vendors or BICSI are advantageous.
- Attention to detail, safety compliance, and capacity to work independently in mission-critical settings.
