Senior Director, Commercial Finance & Performance Management (CFPM)

About the Company and Role

Finning International Inc., a leading organization, is seeking an experienced leader for the role of Senior Director, Commercial Finance & Performance Management (CFPM) based in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. This is a permanent, full-time position integral to the company's financial leadership, managing an approximately $6 billion revenue business. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Finance & Supply Chain, this role provides strategic financial leadership and oversees the Commercial & Financial Business Partnering team, advising senior and executive management and actively contributing to profitable growth, capital optimization, and governance enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with Finning and Caterpillar's corporate objectives.
• Support executive leadership in decision-making and governance related to investments.
• Analyze industry competition and identify new growth opportunities.
• Uphold social, ethical, and organizational integrity, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with company policies.
• Oversee commercial governance for Canada operations, managing revenue exceeding $6 billion and EBIT around $500 million.
• Champion strategic planning, governance processes and ensure alignment with corporate goals.
• Lead change management initiatives to continuously improve business operations.
• Drive understanding and analysis of financial performance on regular cycles (monthly, quarterly, annually).
• Identify performance gaps and create corrective action plans.
• Balance operational and corporate demands in evaluating business performance.
• Monitor key financial metrics including EBIT, Invested Capital, Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), and Free Cash Flow (FCF).
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
• Ensure efficient financial and accounting operations, including asset management and reporting.
• Provide detailed, high-quality reports and dashboards to executive leadership for informed decision-making.
• Improve forecasting accuracy and the quality of performance analytics.
• Lead governance for significant deals, tenders, and post-investment evaluations.
• Authorize major commercial decisions and business cases.
• Serve as trusted advisor to the Finning Canada Executive Committee, Finance Leadership Team, and Board.
• Represent Finning Canada externally, including engagements with Caterpillar and other stakeholders.
• Lead and develop the Commercial Finance & Performance Management team, fostering talent growth and succession planning.
• Demonstrate strong leadership with full accountability for team results and organizational impact.

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles.
• Extensive progressive accounting background in industry or public practice.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance or a related discipline preferred; professional accounting designation or graduate degree is advantageous.
• Proven senior leadership skills, including experience leading large-scale financial system implementations (e.g. BPC, SAP, Hyperion, M3, Peoplesoft).
• Comprehensive knowledge of dealership business models, supply chain management, finance, and commercial practices.
• Operational experience across multiple functional areas.
• Global business strategy understanding and expertise in corporate finance.
• Deep accounting knowledge alongside a strong grasp of business processes, governance, and operational requirements.
• Familiarity with financial systems implementation, optimization, and ongoing support.
• Industry-specific operational knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office and in-house financial systems including BPC, M3, Power BI, and Concur.
• Adherence to organizational policies focused on safety, inclusion, and diversity.
• Ability to define key performance indicators, identify variances, and enhance internal controls.
• Preferred experience with Caterpillar's systems and tools, including DFRS and dealer portals.
• Change management experience with certifications such as PROSCI or Lean Change Agent preferred.
