LegalVision is a progressive commercial law firm designed for businesses that prefer innovative working methods. Our fixed-fee legal membership allows SMEs and in-house teams to access unlimited legal support. Leveraging proprietary technology, we provide efficient, high-quality legal services with transparent pricing, fostering rewarding careers for our staff.
We are rapidly expanding across New Zealand, Australia, and the United Kingdom, offering unique growth opportunities, exposure to diverse legal matters at scale, and the chance to join a firm recognised as a 5 Star Employer of Choice, a Top 25 Attraction Firm, and Law Firm of the Year.
Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a skilled Senior Associate to join our growing ANZ Construction & Infrastructure practice, especially to further develop our New Zealand construction services. This role involves handling a wide array of construction, infrastructure, and commercial legal issues. Our client base ranges from small enterprises to large corporations, with an emphasis on providing timely, cost-effective, and high-quality legal advice.
The NZ team operates entirely remotely, with periodic in-person gatherings and access to coworking spaces, including a Christchurch office for local members. Successful candidates will receive a home office setup allowance.
Key Duties
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating diverse construction contracts including standards such as NZS 3910, NZS 3916, NZ 3604, Residential Building Contracts, Consultancy Agreements, and Subcontractor Agreements.
- Advising clients on strategies for contract procurement.
- Handling contractual claims and interpreting contract terms.
- Providing expert advice on regulatory compliance issues including security of payment claims, the Construction Contracts Act 2002, Building Act 2004, Licensed Building Practitioner obligations, and other commercial building regulatory requirements.
- Serving as the main legal contact for clients, fostering trusted relationships, proactively identifying added value opportunities, and supporting client business success.
- Contributing to the team and firm development through authoring articles, hosting external webinars, and delivering internal training at our LegalVision Academy.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in a respected legal setting, either in-house, private practice, or both, with a strong focus on front-end construction and infrastructure law; general commercial contract experience is advantageous.
- Commercially astute and solution-focused approach.
- Ability to simplify and communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Proven project management skills with competence in managing cases independently while juggling multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Self-driven yet collaborative, thriving in a high-performing team environment.
Benefits and Perks
- Fully remote work option anywhere in New Zealand; Christchurch-based candidates may choose a hybrid arrangement at our local office.
- Opportunities for developing leadership and people management skills.
- Flexible work environment promoting autonomy, career growth, and building a practice.
- Direct impact on the strategic growth and direction of LegalVision.
- Additional paid leave including extra LegalVision leave days, birthday leave, volunteering leave, and parental leave.
- Annual budget allocated for external learning and professional development.
