Safety Officer

Position Overview

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Safety Officer to oversee and support workplace safety, health, and environmental compliance at our client’s site located in Tuas, Singapore. The successful candidate will implement safety policies, conduct site inspections, identify hazards, ensure regulatory adherence, and foster a strong culture of safety among all employees, contractors, and site personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure strict adherence to Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations, company safety policies, and safe working procedures.
• Develop and maintain risk assessments, permit-to-work protocols, and safety procedures on-site.
• Conduct routine audits and safety inspections across workshops, warehouses, service areas, and operational locations.
• Detect unsafe behaviors, hazardous conditions, and workplace risks, ensuring corrective and preventive measures are implemented.
• Support safety measures related to lifting operations, crane and truck upkeep, hot works, working at heights, equipment use, and material handling.
• Perform and evaluate risk assessments, job safety analyses, and method statements for all operational activities.
• Lead investigations into workplace incidents, near misses, and safety violations, preparing detailed reports and recommendations.
• Keep comprehensive safety documentation, including inspection reports, incident logs, training records, and statutory requirements.
• Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, induction sessions, and refresher courses for employees, contractors, and site personnel.
• Advance safety awareness and encourage active hazard and unsafe practice reporting.
• Oversee contractor and subcontractor compliance with company safety standards.
• Monitor proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safety and emergency equipment such as fire safety gear and first aid facilities.
• Collaborate closely with teams across Operations, Workshop, Warehouse, Logistics, and Facilities to integrate safe working practices into everyday tasks.
• Engage with external safety consultants, auditors, contractors, and regulatory bodies as needed.
• Manage fire safety and emergency preparedness programs, including organizing fire drills, upholding emergency procedures, coordinating with Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), and supporting the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Qualifications and Expertise

• Diploma, Advanced Certificate, or equivalent credentials in Workplace Safety and Health, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Holding a Registered WSH Officer certification is considered a strong asset.
• Accumulated 2 to 5 years of pertinent experience, ideally in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, construction, steel, metal fabrication, warehousing, or other industrial environments.
• Solid understanding of Singapore's WSH legislation, risk assessment procedures, incident investigation protocols, and safety management systems.
• Experienced in conducting thorough safety inspections, toolbox meetings, risk evaluations, and incident documentation.
• Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, lifting and hot work operations, working at heights, and supervision of contractor safety is beneficial.
• Self-driven and hands-on approach with the ability to effectively collaborate with operational teams on the ground.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to engage with employees, supervisors, contractors, and management effectively.
• Detail-oriented, accountable, and committed to ensuring follow-through on all safety findings and corrective measures.
