Role overview
The Safety Manager will own, run, and continuously improve the Safety Management System (SMS) for maintenance operations. The role focuses on spotting hazards early, managing operational risks, and driving safer day-to-day engineering and maintenance practices.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and keep the organisation’s Safety Management System up to date.
- Detect aviation safety hazards and evaluate the risks connected with maintenance work.
- Manage reporting, investigation, and closure of safety events, hazards, and near-miss cases.
- Track safety performance and follow through on risk-reduction actions until completion.
- Build and sustain a strong safety culture and just culture across all functions.
- Plan and coordinate safety communication, awareness drives, and safety promotion activities.
- Make sure safety training, including human factors training, is delivered and monitored.
- Support internal inquiries and contribute to root-cause analysis.
- Compile and present regular safety performance updates to senior leadership.
- Work with other teams to ensure new changes are assessed for safety risks.
- Serve as the safety point of contact for DGCA-related matters when needed.
- Maintain safety records, documentation, and data analysis processes.
Qualifications and experience
A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, aviation, or a technical field is preferred. The candidate should bring at least 5 years of relevant aviation experience, including exposure to maintenance operations. Experience in safety management, quality, or technical oversight will be an added advantage.
Skills and competencies
The role calls for a solid grasp of aviation safety practices, familiarity with human factors, risk-based decision-making, strong analytical ability, clear communication, presentation skills, and the confidence to influence safe behaviour. High integrity, objectivity, and close attention to detail are also essential.
Working relationships
This position works closely with the Accountable Manager, senior management, engineering, maintenance, quality, compliance teams, and external stakeholders including DGCA as required.
